Travel & Transport Assistance for People with Disability

SSS Support provides travel and transport assistance for people with disability — available through NDIS funding (Registration Group 0108, Core Supports) and on a private basis for individuals and families who prefer to self-fund. Safe, reliable transport is not a luxury. It is what allows people to attend appointments, connect with their community, go to work or study and live independently. Our support is flexible, participant-led and delivered with genuine care.

What Does NDIS Travel & Transport Assistance Include?
We understand how essential safe and reliable transportation is for individuals living with disabilities.
Our NDIS-funded Travel Assistance services include:
✅ Door-to-Door Transport
We provide scheduled, reliable pick-up and drop-off services — getting you to medical appointments, school, work, social events and anywhere else you need to be, safely and on time.
✅ Support Worker Travel Companions
Our trained support workers accompany you throughout your journey — providing physical assistance, emotional reassurance and practical help every step of the way. You don’t travel alone.
✅ Public Transport Training & Independence Building
We help participants build the confidence and skills to use public transport independently — including planning routes using PTV, reading timetables, purchasing Myki cards and navigating Melbourne’s train, tram and bus network.
✅ Flexible, Tailored Transport Arrangements
Whether you need regular daily trips or occasional transport for specific appointments, we adapt to your schedule. We work around your NDIS plan, your routine and your preferences.
✅ Community Access Through Better Mobility
Greater mobility means greater opportunity. By removing transport barriers, we help people with disability access social activities, recreational programs, employment and education, building real independence and inclusion over time.

Understanding Travel & Transport Funding in Your NDIS Plan

NDIS transport assistance funding can appear in two different places in your plan, and it’s important to understand the difference:
Transport funding: This is a fixed amount added to your plan specifically to help cover the costs of transport — for example, getting to and from appointments or community activities.
Transport as part of another support: If a support worker is taking you somewhere as part of delivering another support (such as community participation or personal care), the travel cost may be claimed under that support category instead.
Not sure which applies to you? Our team can help you understand your funding and make the most of every dollar in your NDIS plan.

Funding Options — NDIS and Private
NDIS-funded participants
Travel and transport support is funded under Core Supports in your NDIS plan (Registration Group 0108). Transport funding works differently to other NDIS supports — it can appear as a standalone transport budget in your plan, or be claimed within another Core Supports category depending on how the support is delivered. Some participants also have transport funding built into their SIL or community participation arrangements. Your support coordinator or plan manager can clarify exactly what transport funding is in your plan — or contact SSS Support and we’ll help you work it out.
Privately funded individuals and families
Transport and travel assistance is available on a private-pay basis for individuals who are not yet on the NDIS or who need transport support beyond what their NDIS plan covers. This includes private door-to-door transport, travel companionship for appointments and public transport training arranged directly with SSS Support. Contact us to discuss rates and availability.
Not sure what you have?
Transport funding in NDIS plans can be confusing — it does not always show up in an obvious place. Contact us and we will help you find it in your plan, or discuss what private transport support looks like if NDIS funding is not yet in place.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is NDIS Travel & Transport Assistance (Registration Group 0108)?
NDIS Registration Group 0108 covers Assist-Travel/Transport — support to help participants travel to and from activities, appointments, work, education or community events. It includes both direct transport (trips in a vehicle) and training to use public transport independently.
Can NDIS pay for a support worker to drive me to my medical appointments?
Yes. If your NDIS plan includes transport funding or community access funding, SSS Support can arrange a support worker to drive you to medical appointments, therapy sessions, hospital visits and other essential destinations. Contact us to confirm what your plan covers.
Does NDIS cover transport to work or school?
Transport to work or school can be funded under your NDIS plan’s transport budget if it is related to your disability support needs. Speak to your support coordinator or contact SSS Support to discuss whether this applies to your plan.
Do you provide transport support for wheelchair users?
Yes. SSS Support can arrange transport for participants who use wheelchairs or other mobility aids. Contact us to discuss your specific accessibility requirements so we can arrange the right vehicle and support for your needs.
Can you help me learn to use public transport independently?
Yes — this is one of our specialities. Our support workers provide hands-on travel training, helping you learn to plan routes, use a Myki card, navigate bus, train and tram services and build the confidence to travel independently at your own pace.
Where does SSS Support provide travel and transport assistance?
SSS Support provides travel and transport assistance across western Melbourne and surrounding suburbs. Contact us to confirm availability in your specific area and we will let you know if we can help.
Can I access travel and transport support without an NDIS plan?
Yes. SSS Support provides travel and transport support on a private-pay basis for individuals who are not yet on the NDIS, are waiting for plan approval or prefer to self-fund. This includes door-to-door transport, travel companionship and public transport training. Contact us to discuss private rates and availability.
