At SSS Support, we provide safe, compliant and professional medication support and clinical waste management for people with disability — ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of every person we support. This service is available through NDIS funding and on a private basis for individuals and families who prefer to self-fund.
Our trained support workers follow strict NDIS Practice Standards and Australian health regulations, delivering medication prompting and assistance within the scope defined by each participant’s health management plan and our own staff training protocols.
We work closely with participants, families, GPs and pharmacists to ensure every step of medication handling is safe, accurate and fully documented.
What Our Medication Support Covers — Scope of Practice

✔️ Observe and confirm medication is taken
✔️ Liaise with pharmacists and report concerns to the participant’s GP or nurse
✔️ Apply topical creams, ointments or patches as directed
✔️ Handle and dispose of clinical waste including sharps and continence waste
✔️ Store medications safely and maintain accurate medication records
✔️ Assist with inhalers or eye drops as directed in the health plan
✔️ Remind and prompt participants to take prescribed medication

Administering injections or subcutaneous medications
Enteral (tube) feeding and PEG management
Complex wound care and dressing changes
Catheter care and management
Any medication requiring clinical assessment before administration
Adjusting medication doses or schedules

If a participant requires clinical-level medication support, SSS Support will work with the participant’s GP, nurse or allied health team to ensure the right clinician is in place — and can coordinate our support around their clinical care schedule.

Funding Options — NDIS and Private
NDIS-funded participants
Medication prompting and non-invasive administration support is funded under Core Supports — Assistance with Daily Life in your NDIS plan, typically alongside personal activities or daily living support. It is not usually a separate line item — rather, it forms part of a broader daily support package. If your plan includes personal care or daily living support and you require medication assistance, this should already be covered. Speak to your support coordinator or contact SSS Support to confirm.
Privately funded individuals and families
Medication prompting and clinical waste support is available on a private-pay basis for individuals not yet on the NDIS or who prefer to self-fund this aspect of their care. This is common for older Australians managing complex medication routines at home who want additional support beyond what family or aged care services provide. All support stays within the proper scope of practice for disability support workers — complex clinical tasks requiring a registered nurse are not included. Contact us to discuss what private medication support looks like.
Not sure what you have?
If you are unsure whether your NDIS plan covers medication support, contact SSS Support and we will help you check your plan and confirm what is funded as part of your daily living support, or discuss private options if NDIS funding is not yet in place.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can an NDIS support worker help with medication?
Yes — but within a defined scope. NDIS support workers can prompt participants to take medication, hand pre-packaged medications (such as Webster packs), observe that medication is taken, and assist with non-invasive administration such as applying creams, inhalers or eye drops as directed in the participant’s health plan. More complex clinical tasks — such as injections or wound care — require a registered nurse or formal clinical delegation. SSS Support’s trained workers deliver medication support within the appropriate scope for disability support workers.
What is the difference between medication prompting and medication administration?
Medication prompting means reminding a participant to take their medication and handing them their pre-packaged dose — the participant takes it themselves. Medication administration means physically giving or applying a medication to the participant. Both are within scope for trained disability support workers for non-invasive medications. Injections, enteral medications and complex clinical administration require a registered nurse.
How does SSS Support keep medication records?
Every medication interaction is documented in real time by our support workers — recording the medication name, dose, time taken and any observations or concerns. These records are maintained securely and are accessible to support coordinators, families and the participant’s health professionals as required. Any medication errors or near-misses are recorded and reported through our formal Incident Management process.
What is clinical waste and how does SSS Support manage it?
Clinical waste includes sharps (needles, lancets), used dressings, continence products and contaminated PPE. SSS Support manages clinical waste using approved containers and disposal procedures, following infection control standards and Victorian health regulations. Sharps are collected in approved sharps containers and disposed of through compliant waste services — never in general household bins.
Is medication support funded through NDIS?
Yes. The time a support worker spends providing medication prompting and assistance can be claimed under Core Supports — Daily Activities (Assistance with Personal Activities, Registration Group 0107) in your NDIS plan. The medication itself is not funded by the NDIS, but the support worker time to assist with it is. Speak to your support coordinator or plan manager for clarification on your specific plan.

Can I access medication support without an NDIS plan?
Yes. SSS Support provides medication prompting and non-invasive assistance on a private-pay basis for individuals not yet on the NDIS or who prefer to self-fund. This is particularly common for older Australians managing complex medication routines at home. All support stays within the appropriate scope of practice for disability support workers.
