Behaviour Support Implementation for People with Disability

At SSS Support, our Behaviour Support Implementation service is designed to help people with disability live safely, confidently and with dignity — by providing skilled, consistent and compassionate implementation of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Plans in everyday life.

Our trained support workers carry out strategies developed by registered Behaviour Support Practitioners, working closely with participants, families, carers and allied health professionals to put each plan into meaningful action, every day.

What Is Behaviour Support Implementation?

Behaviour Support Implementation means putting an NDIS Behaviour Support Plan (BSP) (written by a qualified Behaviour Support Practitioner) into consistent, skilled practice in a participant’s daily life. These plans are developed to support participants who display behaviours of concern related to their disability. SSS Support’s role is to implement the strategies within the plan with fidelity, compassion and professionalism — helping participants build skills, improve their quality of life and reduce the need for restrictive practices over time. Our support workers are trained in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) principles and work as part of the broader team surrounding the participant, alongside their Behaviour Support Practitioner, family, carers and other allied health professionals.

  • Implementing strategies to reduce and eliminate restrictive practices
  • Supporting the development of communication and coping skills
  • Enhancing emotional regulation and wellbeing
  • Reinforcing positive behaviours through consistent, evidence-based approaches
  • Enabling safe and meaningful participation in home, community and social settings

Understanding the Behaviour Support Implementer Role

Under the NDIS, behaviour support involves two distinct roles — and understanding the difference helps families and support coordinators find the right provider for each part of the process:

Behaviour Support Practitioner

A qualified specialist (psychologist, OT, social worker etc.) who assesses the participant and writes the Behaviour Support Plan. Must be individually registered with the NDIS Commission.

Behaviour Support Implementer (SSS Support)

A registered NDIS provider whose trained support workers carry out the strategies in the Behaviour Support Plan in daily life — consistently, compassionately and with fidelity to the plan.

SSS Support is a registered Behaviour Support implementer. If your participant already has a Behaviour Support Plan in place and needs a skilled, consistent team to implement it, we’re here to help. If you’re still in the process of finding a Behaviour Support Practitioner to develop a plan, we can help point you in the right direction.

What Behaviour Support Implementation Looks Like With SSS Support

Effective behaviour support implementation is about consistency — ensuring every support worker who works with a participant understands and follows the strategies in the BSP, every session, every day.

At SSS Support, our implementation support may include:

✔️ Reading, understanding and following all strategies outlined in the participant’s BSP

✔️ Using positive reinforcement approaches tailored to the individual

✔️ Recognising early warning signs and applying de-escalation strategies as directed in the plan

✔️ Using approved, NDIS-compliant restrictive practices only where authorised and documented

✔️ Accurately recording data on behaviours of concern and strategy effectiveness using required forms

✔️ Communicating regularly with the participant’s Behaviour Support Practitioner, support coordinator and family

✔️ Participating in BSP review meetings and training as required

✔️ Completing all mandatory reporting obligations under NDIS behaviour support rules

Our Commitment to Reducing Restrictive Practices

SSS Support is committed to the NDIS’s goal of reducing and ultimately eliminating the use of restrictive practices.

We understand that any use of a regulated restrictive practice must be:

  • Authorised by the relevant state or territory authority (in Victoria, the Senior Practitioner)
  • Included in an approved Behaviour Support Plan
  • Implemented only by trained staff
  • Documented and reported in accordance with NDIS requirements
  • Regularly reviewed with the aim of reduction and elimination

Our support workers receive specific training in implementing behaviour support in ways that prioritise participant safety, dignity and rights — and we take our reporting obligations seriously.

Funding Options — NDIS and Private

NDIS-funded participants

Behaviour support implementation is funded through Capacity Building — Improved Relationships in your NDIS plan. This funding covers the work of both the registered Behaviour Support Practitioner who writes the plan and the support workers who implement it day to day. If your participant has a Behaviour Support Plan or behaviour-related goals in their NDIS plan, implementation support funding should be available. Speak to your support coordinator to confirm — or contact SSS Support and we will help clarify what is in the plan.

Privately funded individuals and families

Behaviour support implementation can also be arranged on a private basis, particularly for families who have an existing Behaviour Support Plan in place and want skilled, consistent implementation while NDIS funding is being arranged or reviewed. Contact us to discuss what private implementation support looks like for your situation.

Not sure what you have?

If your participant’s NDIS plan mentions behaviour support, positive behaviour strategies or restrictive practices, there should be relevant Capacity Building funding available. Contact SSS Support and we will help you understand what is funded and what the next steps are.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a Behaviour Support Practitioner and a Behaviour Support Implementer?

A Behaviour Support Practitioner is a qualified specialist who assesses a participant and writes their Behaviour Support Plan. A Behaviour Support Implementer — like SSS Support — is a registered provider whose trained support workers carry out the strategies in that plan in daily life. Both roles are essential but are separate under NDIS rules.

Does my participant need a Behaviour Support Plan before SSS Support can help?

Yes. SSS Support implements existing Behaviour Support Plans developed by registered Behaviour Support Practitioners. If your participant does not yet have a plan in place, they will need to work with a Behaviour Support Practitioner first. We can help connect you with the right contacts if needed — call us to discuss.

What is Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)?

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is an evidence-based approach used in disability support to understand why behaviours of concern occur and to develop strategies that improve quality of life, build skills and reduce the need for restrictive practices. PBS focuses on teaching new skills and modifying environments rather than punishing behaviours.

How do you ensure consistency in implementing a Behaviour Support Plan?

Consistency is the foundation of effective behaviour support implementation. At SSS Support, we ensure consistent staffing where possible, provide all team members with thorough training on each individual participant’s BSP, keep detailed records, and communicate regularly with the participant’s Behaviour Support Practitioner and support coordinator.

Can SSS Support use restrictive practices with a participant?

SSS Support may only implement regulated restrictive practices that are specifically authorised in the participant’s approved Behaviour Support Plan, approved by the relevant authority (the Senior Practitioner in Victoria), and implemented by appropriately trained staff. All use of restrictive practices is documented and reported in line with NDIS requirements. Our goal is always to reduce and eliminate restrictive practices over time.

Which areas do you provide behaviour support implementation in?

SSS Support provides behaviour support implementation across western Melbourne and surrounding suburbs. Contact us to confirm availability for your participant’s location and to discuss how we can support consistent plan implementation.

Can behaviour support implementation be arranged privately without NDIS funding?

Yes, in some circumstances. If a family has an existing Behaviour Support Plan in place and wants skilled, consistent implementation while NDIS funding is being arranged or reviewed, SSS Support can discuss private implementation options. Contact us to talk through your situation.
